Varkala Papanasham: Wash Away Sins Here

Varkala Papanasam is an elegant beach in Varkala. It is the only beach in the area with cliffs adjacent to the sea. The name Papanasam (killing the sins) is related to a 2,000-year old Hindu temple on the beach, called Janardana Swami Temple. People believe that to shower in the beach can wash away all your sins as the sea has holy waters. For a tourist, it is definitely a wonderful place to hang around and a visit to the temple will give you a clear view of the Hindu customs and some archaic monuments and architectural wonders.
